Mr Jimmy Kibaki and Nyeri-based tycoon Thuo Mathenge popularly known as “Wanguku” have been ejected from the leadership of The New Democrats party days after the latter joined the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
Mr Mathenge was the party’s chairman while Kibaki was the Deputy Party Leader.
The party’s new party Leader is Mr Samir, a son of Mombasa billionaire and EALA MP Suleiman Shahbal. Mr David K. Sudi who was previously the office holder is now deputy party leader earlier occupied by Kibaki.
Mr Mathenge who is making his fourth bid for the Nyeri Governor’s seat in next year’s General Election, joined DCP two months ago. He’ll now wrestle with former Othaya MP Gichuki Mugambi and Kenya’s High Commissioner to India Mr Peter Munyiri for the party’s ticket.
The older Shahbal is also gunning for Mombasa governor’s seat. Just days ago, he rejected President Ruto’s proposal that he stays out of next year’s governor’s race and concentrate on business, insisting that there will be no turning back in his bid.
