A 46-year-old resident of Meru county has written to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) seeking permission to keep two buffaloes in his farm located in Kithirune, Meru County.
In his letter to the warden in charge of Meru titled: Request for Permission to keep two Buffaloes, Daniel Kiogora M’inoti has not stated reason for his interest in keeping the two animals.
But he later told Laikipia Today that he wanted people who have never had an opportunity to see a buffalo to do so a close range.
“There are a lot of wildlife in private land in Laikipia but many ordinary Kenyans cannot still access them. I want to bring conservation closer home for ordinary Kenyans to appreciate this heritage,” he said.
He undertakes to provide the animals with proper housing, adequate food and water, veterinary care, secure fencing and a peaceful environment.
“I will also take all the necessary measures to ensure that the buffaloes do not escape or pose any danger, disturbance or inconvenience to my neighbours and the surrounding community,” he says in the letter dated September 20,2026.
He said he would be willing to comply with all requirements, regulations and conditions set by the Kenya Wildlife Service and other relevant authorities concerning the keeping of the buffaloes.
He sought advice on the necessary procedure and documentation.
